The Gatsby Foundation commissioned Sir John Holman to report on what career guidance in England would be like were it good! The report analyses the evidence from six countries (the Netherlands, Germany, Hong Kong, Finland, Canada and Ireland) and five English independent schools together with a comprehensive review of current literature. From this analysis, eight benchmarks were identified that relate to different dimensions of good career guidance. The researchers then surveyed a sample of English schools to see how they measure up against the benchmarks and commissioned PwC to identify the costs of implementing the benchmarks in schools across England, Sir John made ten recommendations on how to improve the career guidance system.
